In the Schools
Assemblies and “P.E. take-over” days allow LWSRA to reach out to youth, teens and adults in the community to build a better understanding and acceptance of those with physical or developmental disabilities.
LWSRA’s ability awareness program has been a pivotal tool in our fight to raise awareness for individuals with disabilities. Through education, training and hands-on experience, we hope to extend this knowledge to everyone.
The most popular option we have provided is P.E. Takeover days at our area schools where we bring out adapted equipment and allow students the opportunity to actively try playing adapted sports such as wheelchair basketball, sit volleyball and goalball. We also provide options for assemblies or smaller group activities. Our team can tailor an awareness event to fit your needs! If you are interested in having an event for your school, please review the information below.

Fieldtrips to the LWSRC: LWSRA staff members facilitate interactive activities for special services students from area school districts during scheduled visits to the Lincolnway Special Recreation Center.
LWSRA staff also coordinate with local agencies to help educate others on how to provide more successful environments for individuals with disabilities such as speaking at local fire department babysitting training courses on techniques and strategies to caring for children with special needs.
