In the Schools

Typically 2-4 stations are provided depending on the number of students, # of classes/teachers available and class length. (Classes that are 30 minutes or less will pick from 2 of the 4 activities). Stations could include wheelchair basketball, sit volleyball, goalball or an ability awareness talk. Stations are best accommodated when there are no more than 15 students per station. Larger groups may require an additional day scheduled.

*Activities will depend on the space available, length of classes and class sizes. The optimal setup is to 2 classes of 30 students to create 4 stations with 15 students each. This will allow for 8 minute rotations (plus 4-5 minutes at the end for group discussion/Q&A) but will be adjusted to fit based on your numbers.

Successful fundraiser games are marketed to the student body, faculty, and families in advance of the event. It is recommended to either have a $5 admission fee, donation at the door, or even a fun way to bring the community together. Schools have been creative in selling popsicles during lunch the weeks leading up the game, selling t-shirts to wear at the game, etc, but think of a way that works for your school!

Prior to the game, voting or some form of selection should occur to determine which students and/or faculty members will play in the game. It is recommended to change players quarterly (10 minutes) to allow for more participation. Schools have even subbed in halfway through each quarter as well.

At the start and during the fundraiser, LWSRA staff will have the following games for the public to participate in (all games have gift card prizes for winners):
1) hula hoop contest (free admission) after the first quarter
2) tennis ball throw (1 for $2, 3 for $5, 7 for $10) after the second quarter
3) half-court shot ($5 per shot)
4) heads and tails game ($1/wristband) after the third quarter
5) potentially an opportunity to buy points for either team depending on the competitive atmosphere
